Jade's POV
Derek drove slowly for me. I was extremely nervous about what I might find out about myself. When we finally arrived to my house, I just stared. What was I thinking? I can't do this yet. I sat there waiting on Derek to say something. He always seemed to have the right thing to say to calm me down or let me know it was alright. He's my bestfriend now.
I glanced over at Derek. The look on his face horrified me. "What's wrong, Derek?"
"Somethings not right." He was tense and had his fists tightened around the steering wheel. My eyes grew wide with fear. "What do you mean?" He slowly looked over at me. "Someone has been here."
"Been here? Besides me?" He nodded. "Is it safe to go inside? And how do you know this?"
"Let's just say I have a second sense." I raised my eyebrow. "Ok, so is it safe?"
He looked back at the house and got quiet for a while before turning back to me and nodded. "We can go inside. They are no longer there." I let out the breath I was holding. "Good, then I guess we should get out then, huh?"
He chuckled, relaxing some. "I guess so. If you're wanting to search the house now."
"Yeah, just might as well. We're already here." I opened the car door slowly, then stepping out I couldn't believe what I was about to do. What would I find?
Derek got out and walked around to the front of the car where I was standing staring at the house with no emotion in my eyes. He took my hand and led me into the house at my pace. Which was very slow for your information. I was in no hurry to go inside. He was right something didn't feel right about it. But I knew I had to go.
When we opened the door and looked around everything was in its place but something was out of place or someone had been there and it creeped me out. We eased into the livingroom but everything seemed to be in its rightful place.
We continued up the stairs to the bedrooms and checked every room to make sure no one was in the house. Once we were sure everything was ok we started in the office down the hall from the master bedroom. I sat down in the office chair and started going through documents and different things, finding a birth certificate and some old photos.
I was amazed. I have a sister and its the same girl I kept having visions about. The photo had only been taken about 2 weeks before I had been attacked outside the bar.
Derek kept looking through things handing stuff to me that might help bring my memory back.
I stopped when I came across a picture of a very handsome guy. I knew who he was without even having to think about it. "Evan." I sighed.
Derek looked up. "You know him?" He asked surprised.
"Yeah, he's my ex. He's the reason I was in the bar that night." I shook my head. "I remembered that." I said as more of a statement. "How is that possible?"
He shrugged. "Maybe you're starting to get your memory back." He suggested.
"Maybe or it could be because it happened so close to that night."
"That' could also be true." He sat on the desk beside me, looking down at me. "Are you ready to go back or do you want to look some more? We can come back another day."
I dropped my head. "I want to look through my bedroom at least. You finish up in here and put anything you think might be important in a box. I'll look through it later." I stood up and walked out of the office and down the hall to my bedroom. I stopped in the doorway as a few memories of Evan started rolling back in my mind.
When I could control my emotions, I went to my closet and gathered some clothes to take with me to Derek's house. Then found a small shoe box marked Evan on it on the top shelf. I pulled it down to go through later. I wasn't up for it right now.
After going through some other things and not coming across anything I went back to the office to get Derek so we could leave.
Derek's POV
I looked up at Jade when she stopped in the doorway of the office. "You ready to go?" I asked her suspiciously.
She nodded. "Yeah, let's go. I found some stuff I want to go through later." I stood up and walked over to her grabbing the box by the door then taking her free hand and walking her out to the car.
"Let's get you back. You look exhausted." She leaned against me. I couldn't help but feel protective of this girl.
"Ok, Derek." She said softly as I helped her in the car and put the stuff in the back seat. I then walked around to the other side, climbing in the drivers side and driving us back to my house.
